The Daoust Vukovich LLP Award in Law
Jul 10, 2020 | Announcements
We are living in extraordinary times. While the outbreak of COVID-19 has been a demanding presence, we have also seen new and necessary attention to anti-Black racism and the barriers faced by Black, Indigenous and People of Colour (BIPOC) communities.
At Daoust Vukovich LLP, we are committed to social justice and are taking action against systemic racism within the Canadian legal profession. Recognizing that racism has prevented valued members of Canadian society from obtaining a formal legal education, DV has created a new award at Toronto Metropolitan University's Lincoln Alexander School of Law.
We know that access to education can be life-changing. To create better access, the Daoust Vukovich LLP Award in Law will provide $5,000 annually to a student enrolled at Lincoln Alexander School of Law who identifies as racialized, demonstrates financial need and has a high academic standing. Through this award, DV looks to improve circumstances for those historically underrepresented in law schools and the legal profession.
The first new law school in Toronto since 1889, Toronto Metropolitan University's Lincoln Alexander School of Law will welcome its first class of students in September 2020. Led by Dean Donna Young, Lincoln Alexander School of Law will redefine legal education to create a new kind of lawyer, driven by a curriculum designed to increase the career readiness of graduates, to enhance diversity in the legal profession, and to improve access to justice.
